This year’s Doug Sibley Memorial Scholarship Fun Run is getting a Roman twist! Join us for the Toga Trot on March 15th, where we’ll combine fitness, fun, and a celebration of Coach Doug Sibley’s incredible legacy. Dust off your creativity and compete in our Best Dressed Toga Contest while supporting a great cause!
The event includes a Kids 1 Mile Run and a 5K Fun Run, with all proceeds benefiting the Doug Sibley Memorial Scholarship. This annual scholarship is awarded to a deserving Paul Pewitt High School senior male athlete who exemplifies the qualities Coach Sibley valued most: hard work, dedication, desire, leadership, and a never-quit attitude. Thanks to this scholarship, many recipients have been able to pursue their educational dreams beyond high school.
About Coach Doug Sibley
Coach Doug Sibley and his family moved to Omaha, Texas, in 1980, where he began his 22-year career at Paul Pewitt High School. As Defensive Coordinator for the varsity football team, assistant varsity basketball coach, and head track and field coach, he instilled a passion for excellence in his athletes. Beyond sports, he was a beloved teacher of American History, Sociology, and Driver’s Education, inspiring students both in the classroom and on the field.
Coach Sibley’s impact reached far beyond athletics. He was a mentor, friend, and pillar of the Naples and Omaha communities. After his passing on December 11, 2001, more than 1,000 people gathered to honor his life, remembering his dedication, kindness, and unwavering support for others.
A Run in His Honor
Running was one of Coach Sibley’s greatest passions. He began each morning with a four-mile jog around Omaha. In his memory, we host this event to celebrate his love for running and the positive difference he made in countless lives.
